Many people have family obligations or a job to do, so there time is limited. They can make the pilgrimage in stages, picking up each year where they ended the year before, and spreading the journey over many years (4 or 5 periods of about a fortnight’s walking will be enough to walk to Santiago all the way from Le Puy). This is a perfectly valid way to do it, though you should ensure that your last period is long enough (5 stages) to warrant the issue of the Compostela. And don’t forget that it will take you 2 to 3 days to get the feel of the “Camino”, and to get used to your rucksack and the fact that you will sleep in another bed each night …
